How Does Acupuncture Help?

Pain is a message our bodies are trying to tell us. If we ignore that message, we risk making the problem bigger. We use acupuncture to help us tune into our body to move better, feel better and recover better.

Acupuncture is a powerful tool to help our bodies in returning to normal movement and function. By stimulating muscles that have been shut down and releasing overactive muscles, acupuncture can help the body return to normal function and movement. Not only that, but acupuncture also improves circulation, stimulates the immune system and reduces inflammation.

The body often creates patterns of compensation as a result of pain and injury. With an injury, pain often tells you not to move a certain area of the body in order to protect it. As a result, the brain rewires your movement and muslces, creating compensatory patterns inorder to perform daily tasks. After long periods of compensatory movement, your brain forgets how to move normally. Acupuncture is a great tool to stimulate the nervous system and remind the body of its natural movement and balanced state of being.

Not only are we treating holding patterns, but we also believe that the body, mind and emotions are intertwined. Every cell in your body is connected through a dense web of fascia, nerves, muscles, and blood. Therefore, through addressing your injury we are also considering your unique holding patterns. We believe that  treating imbalances in your body will also lead to better mental and emotional health.

Stress is stress. Physical, mental or emotional all take the same toll on the sympathetic nervous system. The purpose of stress is survival. However, the body does not heal well when we are in this state. The sympathetic nervous system is not meant to be in this mode for extended periods of time. Acupuncture helps to balance the sympathetic nervous systme by turning off the “fight or flight” response and turning on “rest and digest” response of the paraysmpathetic nervous system. Allowing our bodies to be in parasympathetic mode is when we allow ourselves to heal.

My Philosophy

Your body has the power to heal itself. However, these self-healing processes sometimes need a reminder to function at their very best. My approach is to treat you as a living person and your individual body's dynamics instead of a diagnosis. I combine ancient and modern knowledge to promote your body's natural ability to heal itself.
